TechCrunch is seeking a Senior Writer who’s deeply intrigued by the AI arms race and can distill it into compelling stories for a diverse audience: from seasoned founders and investors to those just beginning to grasp tech’s influence on the world. Bonus points if you can cover a broad range of topics with authority and flair.

This role offers a rare opportunity to make a significant impact by supporting our world-class TechCrunch team. If you’re passionate about giving readers an insider’s look at the future of technology—whether in startups or Big Tech—this could be for you!

Who You Are:

  • A versatile storyteller who thrives in both breaking news and crafting deeply reported features.
  • A sharp thinker with a distinct voice, unafraid to share informed perspectives, backed by solid reporting.
  • A collaborative team player who can elevate your own work and that of others.
  • Self-motivated, with a hunger to break news and uncover stories that matter.
  • Comfortable (or willing to become comfortable) on camera and on stage.
  • Eager to collaborate with smart colleagues across TechCrunch, including our events team.

Responsibilities:

  • Break news regularly, staying ahead of the curve in a fast-moving industry.
  • Write in-depth features on the businesses and individuals driving change in AI.
  • Build and nurture relationships with sources to land key interviews and profile industry leaders.
  • Cut through the noise to identify what’s truly impactful versus overhyped in the tech world.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure every story meets TechCrunch’s high standards.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a business or tech reporter, with a proven track record of breaking news.
  • Strong interest in technology trends, key players, and the evolving AI landscape.
  • Demonstrated success in developing sources and uncovering scoops.
  • Ability to differentiate between substance and bluster in a fast-changing industry.
  • Availability to work from our San Francisco office twice a week.
