About the team + role
We’re looking for an experienced financial news junkie who is driven by the opportunity to inform readers and Robinhood traders. The ideal candidate will have impeccable news judgment and a knack for writing punchy headlines that explain in less characters than a tweet the what, why, and how of market-moving news for Robinhood App customers.
You are adept at monitoring multiple sources in real-time to identify impactful events, releases, developments, and statements while screening out the noise. You can succinctly and accurately explain what’s moving a stock, significant events in the economy, and material developments in the business world. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, are incredibly detail-oriented, experienced working with analytics and content management tools, and understand how to delegate and communicate with a distributed editorial team in periods of market volatility.

What you’ll do
- You’ll write, refine, and program headlines and push notifications about news that is moving individual equities, sectors, or the broader market for the Robinhood app, working with different tools in a breaking news environment.
- Constantly monitor various sources of breaking news and stock market data to discover market news and alert relevant editors and reporters.
- Assist the Markets editor to assign, edit, and run “traffic control” during busy market moments, identifying important news and the key factors advancing the news.
- As part of the Sherwood Media team, you’ll be on the pulse of the daily financial news cycle and expected to be able to write and edit of-the-day market news.
- You’ll work closely with editors and reporters to plan, pitch, develop, and fact-check stories. This includes keeping an active knowledge of the top companies of interest to Robinhood traders and ensuring coverage of key moments that will likely affect their stock, such as Apple’s WWDC, investor days, earnings, etc.
- You’ll leverage data and analytics to prioritize and plan coverage, constantly iterating to improve and supply the best news experience for retail traders.
- We’ll lean on you to help share and execute experiments and initiatives, finding new, strategic ways to reach our audience within the Robinhood app.
- You’ll help ensure our news products span a balance of perspectives and topics, and uphold Sherwood’s editorial and ethics standards.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in a newsroom setting
- Previous experience covering markets news, working in, and reacting to breaking-news situations
- A deep familiarity with different content management systems, data analytics tools, and the ability to program within multiple touch points with precision.
- A love for news, especially financial and business news, and comprehensive grasp of other key editorial players in the landscape. You’re eager to make people’s financial lives better through news that delivers key insights and education
