Reuters seeks two US companies correspondents in Mexico City

Reuters is looking for two correspondents to be part of a dynamic news desk that produces stories in English on companies and markets from Sydney to San Francisco. Based in Mexico City, the role will involve writing alerts and news on some of the biggest U.S. companies.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Native or fluent speaker and writer in English.
  • Adept at performing quickly under pressure as they work with reporters and news editors to produce compelling stories that appeal both to professional clients who rely on Reuters to help make investment decisions and general readers who access Reuters news through Reuters.com and media outlets worldwide.
  • Well-versed in financial news and comfortable with covering stories across asset classes.
  • An individual with a strong background in equities reporting, an eye for detail, and the ability to simplify and explain often-complex material.

And as a Correspondent, Companies, you will:

  • Monitor and write stories with dynamic prose and strong news judgment; ensure stories have context and actionable content for clients; produce sharp headlines, punchy leads, and overall lively writing.
  • Ensure that stories meet Reuters’ standards for accuracy, speed, balance, and clarity.
  • Enforce Reuters’ high editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines, and policies laid out by the Reuters Trust Principles and the Reuters Handbook of Journalists

About You:

You’re a fit for the role if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • English as a native language or very high proficiency, both spoken and written.
  • An obsessive-level interest in current affairs
  • At least 2-5 years of experience writing business news.
  • Excellent news judgment and a passion for breaking news.
  • Unflappable interpersonal and organizational skills even when under pressure.
  • A desire to work with colleagues dedicated to the Trust Principles of independence, integrity, and freedom from bias.
  • Adept at performing quickly under pressure and an ability to multi-task.
  • Well-versed in financial news and comfortable with covering stories across asset classes.

This is a full-time, desk-based role, that requires flexibility. You must be willing to work as part of a global 24/7 rotating shift system, including weekends and public holidays, with occasional night shifts.
