The Global Mining Editor will be in charge of companies and topics ranging from Rio Tinto to Glencore and SQM, from the scramble for critical minerals to the disruption to trade as a result of the war in Ukraine and other supply chain shifts, changing global economic demand and beyond. You’ll cover its impacts to manufacturing and heavy industry as well as stories relating to resource nationalism, regulatory scrutiny and environmental opposition.

The successful Global Mining Editor will inspire and energize reporters whilst working across time zones with metal markets and industry-specific teams. The editor will deftly triage between major breaking news and drive deeper enterprise reporting to deliver a world-class mining file.

About the Role

As our Global Mining Editor, you will:

  • Lead a global team of experienced reporters to break news on the most influential companies in the mining sector
  • Deliver fast, accurate, unbiased and insightful stories that take readers inside the industry and on political and regulatory changes that affect the sector
  • Raise the ambition of the team by hiring, retaining and developing the best and most diverse talent
  • Work seamlessly across disciplines and geographies to produce a well-rounded business file at speed

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Global Mining Editor if you have:

  • Deep knowledge and sources in the mining and/or commodities industry.
  • Sophisticated understanding of corporate accounts and financial markets.
  • Outstanding news judgment, energy and drive.
  • Strong track record of scoops and the ability to write with flair and speed.
  • Demonstrable experience of running a team of reporters at a major news organization.
  • Coaching mentality, strong people skills and proven ability to spot and develop talent.
  • Ability to navigate and manage a team within a complex organization.
