Reuters seeks a European tech correspondent

Reuters is seeking an experienced and ambitious journalist with a track record for breaking news to cover the technology sector and the ever-changing policies governing the industry.

The correspondent would shed light on the growth of the technology industry in the continent as big American companies jostle with home-grown rivals in areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, social media and data storage.

The job will take you from covering Apple’s battle with Spotify and Tesla building factories in Germany, to writing about the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on tech firms, to startups facing a potential recession. You will cover a vast canvas as your next story could be in any of the 44 European countries.

Europe is at the forefront of instituting regulations governing global technology companies with far-reaching impact across the world. As a regional correspondent, you will have a ringside view to tell the story on how new regulations will shape the future of technology.

The successful candidate will thrive in a role that requires strong source-building skills and the ability to generate exclusive stories and agenda-setting ideas that creatively tell the tale of the tech revolution. You should be able to comfortably switch from covering breaking news and writing trunks of global stories to diving deeply into initiative work.

Playing well with others is a must. You will work closely with the European Technology & Telecoms Correspondent and colleagues across the world, and report to the Global Industry Editor for Technology.

Our preferred location is London, however other job locations will be considered too.

As our European Technology Correspondent, you will:

  • Break stories on European affairs of large global technology companies
  • Work closely with colleagues across Europe and around the world
  • Be based in London with occasional travel to Dublin, Brussels and elsewhere. Other job locations in Europe will be considered too.

To be our European Technology Correspondent, you are likely to have:

  • An aptitude for developing contacts and understanding of technology
  • The ability to be equally comfortable covering breaking news, writing trunks of global stories and diving deeply into initiative work
  • At least 7 years’ experience in journalism
  • As a plus, extensive experience across a range of subjects, including technology
  • European language skills, also a plus

Please note, the deadline for applications is Sunday 3rd July 2022.
