Quartz seeks a deputy email editor to edit, produce, and further develop its suite of editorial emails, and to play an instrumental role in the next era of Quartz newsletter and short-form journalism products.

Email is the most effective and engaging way that Quartz reaches its loyal readers, who consider their inbox the nexus of their relationship with us. We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic editor to help create emails that include the Daily Brief, Quartz Africa Weekly, The Memo, The Forecast, The Company, How To, and the Weekend Brief. This editor will also work on new email products, Quartz Essentials (a short-form explainer format), and will have the opportunity to write and edit stories for qz.com.

The successful candidate will have:

  • 1-3 years of editing experience, with a preference for experience covering business and the economy, and/or China, India, and Africa.
  • Stellar news judgment, with an eye for stories about business and the global economy that drive conversation and the ability to respond quickly to breaking news.
  • A knack for writing pithy, informative notifications and summaries.
  • Well-developed time management, organization, and collaboration skills. You should be comfortable following detailed production processes and working with colleagues across time zones and departments.

The deputy email editor will report to the email editor in Virginia, and work with a tightly knit team that relies strongly on excellent communication to manage multiple deadlines per day. All locations will be considered, but we are looking for someone to work New York  hours. Workday hours would be roughly 9am to 5pm EST.

  • Quartz is a remote-first company
  • Experience editing and writing email newsletters a must
  • Experience navigating WordPress and SendGrid preferred
  • Five years or more of experience in a newsroom
  • Subject to writing/editing test
