Protocol seeks a climate tech reporter

Protocol is seeking a reporter who can break news and tell original, inside stories about the world of climate tech.

The climate crisis is the biggest existential threat facing humanity. And as the world’s most powerful industry, tech has a huge role to play in solving the problem. Protocol Climate is focused on how new technologies are being used to tackle climate change — and how the tech industry is reckoning with its own environmental impact.

From carbon dioxide removal and better batteries to artificial meat and clean construction, many new technologies promise to help reduce carbon pollution, stabilizing the climate. We’re looking for a reporter who understands those technologies, can find the signal among the noise, and write fascinating stories about the advances that really matter.

What You’ll Need:

We’re not looking for reporters to summarize what others have already reported; we’re looking for reporters who can consistently break news that other reporters have to follow. Our ideal candidate is smart and well-sourced, a journalist who has a knack for finding out what’s happening and explaining what it means and why it matters to a savvy and knowledgeable audience.

The strongest candidates will have experience and expertise in climate tech but can also explain why it matters to a business audience. You don’t need to be a climate expert, but you should have at least a basic understanding of the risks climate change poses and a willingness to learn about solutions, including how to separate what’s real and needed from what’s vaporware.

Location:

We prefer candidates in the San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C., areas but are open to other locations as well.
