Politico seeks a tech reporter in Europe

July 18, 2024

Posted by Chris Roush

POLITICO Europe is looking for a reporter to join our team covering technology politics and policy.

Europe is at the heart of the global race between superpowers over who owns and controls the technology sector. EU governments are trying to tame the tech industry and tech giants are competing for market power across the bloc.

POLITICO is looking for a reporter who can help lead our coverage of technology politics and policy. The beat can include artificial intelligence as well as other topics depending on the successful candidate’s background.

The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and a track record of rigorous reporting and scoops. They should be a team player, with a good understanding of how policy is made and a demonstrated ability to develop sources within governments, industry organizations and interest groups. They should have a knack for spotting ideas that are shifting the policy discussions around technology.

The position is a full-time role based in Brussels.

What You’ll Do

The successful candidate will be able not only to write authoritatively about the high-level political debate on technology but also cater to a sophisticated audience of policy insiders for POLITICO Pro, our subscription news service.

We’re looking for a confident source builder: you will be competing in a space where breaking news is the primary goal. Your reporting and analysis will define how technology issues are dealt with by political leaders, tech giants and others.

The role includes anchoring a daily policy newsletter on a regular basis.

You will also be the public face of POLITICO at events and panels on technology issues.

What You’ll Need

  • At least three years’ newsroom experience
  • Proven ability to write clearly and accurately in English on deadline
  • Proven ability to break news and a passion for giving readers inside information they need to know and can’t get elsewhere
  • Willingness to work flexibly within a demanding, often fast-moving reporting job
  • Knowledge of German and French is a plus
  • Knowledge of the topic area is a plus
