Politico seeks a reporter to cover politics and policy

May 23, 2022

Posted by Chris Roush

Politico is looking for an enterprising, creative journalist to anchor a new newsletter chronicling the politics and policy of energy and climate change. You’ll explain and analyze what’s behind the hottest energy news of the day, whether it’s rising gasoline prices, a Supreme Court ruling or a battle on Capitol Hill about Biden’s agenda. You’ll deliver daily for an influential audience that’s tracking the power dynamics driving the energy conversation.

This reporter will be responsible for shaping the newsletter each day from start to finish. On some days you’ll write the top, while on other days you’ll focus on pulling together the graphics, art, curated content and other elements that will engage our readers. Each day’s offering will use a variety of formats to tell the story of the latest political and policy drama — whether it unfolds center-stage in our national politics, at the state and local level or quietly behind the scenes.

What You’ll Need:

  • At least three years of reporting experience, preferably covering energy policy and politics; the intersection of energy and climate policy; or energy technology.
  • A deep understanding of energy politics and policy — from regulatory issues around the electric grid to oil markets to California’s clean energy mandates.
  • A conversational style that aims to reach a broad audience with snappy, clean writing.

Please apply with a cover letter expressing your interest and five clips that show the depth and breadth of your reporting on energy. All applications are due May 31.
