Politico is seeking an experienced reporter to join its health care team and lead its coverage of the Biden administration’s efforts on Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act – programs that shape the lives of most Americans.
This reporter will focus specifically on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services headquarters in Washington and the relationships among the agency and officials at the Department of Health and Human Services, Congress, and the White House.
The successful candidate will have experience navigating the federal government and will understand Washington’s regulatory process and how health insurers, hospitals, doctors, and other health providers get paid. You’ll be expected to write authoritative stories for all Politico platforms exploring the political forces shaping Washington’s approach to these and other high-profile health care issues.
We are looking for an enterprising journalist with deep curiosity, excellent news judgment and a track record of revelatory storytelling – someone who is eager to scoop the competition while also delivering deep dives. You should be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues across the large health care reporting team and must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a highly productive, fast-moving newsroom.
What You’ll Need:
- Experience covering federal health policy
- Proven ability to dig up scoops in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Ability to work collaboratively across beats
