Politico is seeking a creative and entrepreneurial editor to help lead its growing global coverage of technology — one of the most consequential and fast-moving stories on the planet.
As the tech giants rapidly rewrite the social contract between citizens and their governments — and newcomers launch headline-grabbing new products that promise even greater change — our team tracks the collisions between governments and Silicon Valley on everything from AI to political disinformation, as well as the international contest to control privacy, social media, tech infrastructure and manufacturing.
You’ll work with our Global Technology Editor and our US staff, as well as a wide cast of colleagues across North America and Europe, to edit high-impact daily scoops on the thinking and actions of policymakers and regulators, as well as pulling back to brainstorm original, insightful deep dives into the bigger trends driving the moment — and shaping the future. Tech is a fast-moving beat that rewards imagination and curiosity, and to that end you’ll also help POLITICO craft new coverage lines, products and approaches to meet the challenge with the highest possible impact.
We believe the best journalists not only report the news but hold those in power accountable for their actions — with “power” defined in new ways every year— and we’re looking for someone to help a team of creative and enterprising reporters achieve that goal.
What You’ll Do
- Assign and edit breaking news for both subscribers and the POLITICO homepage
- Plan and edit original, in-depth stories that take readers inside the struggles between the tech industry, governments and the broader public
- Guide, plan and edit this coverage across POLITICO’s platforms: Politico.com, our must-read newsletters and our premium subscriber service
- Work with POLITICO’s overseas newsrooms to build out our transatlantic presence on tech policy
- Work across POLITICO’s teams to brainstorm events, big-idea showcases, and new approaches to the coverage
What You’ll Need
- A drive to understand and illuminate the intersection of technology and politics, demonstrated through reporting or editing
- A track record in managing or covering technology or policy news, domestically or globally
- Experience developing innovative coverage and enterprise journalism that breaks news for influential audiences
- Creativity with formats, approaches and topics, and a willingness to work across teams to develop innovative new ideas
- Strong organizational skills to keep projects on track while coaching reporters to distill complex subjects on daily deadlines
