Politico Europe seeks a food and agriculture reporter

Politico is looking for a reporter to cover one of the most colorful and contentious topics in Europe: food and agriculture policy.

Food and farming lie at the heart of some of the EU’s biggest clashes. From Europe-wide protests over import competition to controversy around novel foods and the next reform of the vast Common Agricultural Policy, this beat offers a chance to break news on some of the biggest stories in Europe.

We are looking for a reporter who can drive coverage of topics from the use of fertilizers and food labelling to food security and support for the bloc’s farmers.

The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and a track record of rigorous reporting, source building and scoops. They will be a team player, with a good understanding of how policy is made and a demonstrated ability to develop sources within the EU, governments, industry organizations and interest groups involved in policy.

This is a full-time role based in our Brussels newsroom.

What You’ll Do

  • Break news as part of a team covering Food and Agriculture for both POLITICO Pro, our subscription news service, and a broader readership
  • Jointly author a must-read morning newsletter for subscribers
  • Deliver longer reads that appeal beyond a specialist audience
  • Build a broad network of sources
  • Work closely with colleagues covering trade, health care, climate and other beats
  • Be a public face of POLITICO at events and panels on topics related to your beat

What You’ll Need

  • At least three years’ newsroom experience
  • Demonstrable interest in food and agriculture policy
  • Strong track record of breaking news
  • Strong attention to detail and unafraid of digging into policy coverage in some depth
  • Written and verbal fluency in English
  • Other European languages are a strong plus
