The role:
The beat involves coverage of digital regulation in the UK. MLex seeks to get ahead of the procedural story through deep-dive analyses of legislation to anticipate where regulatory problems may lie. It’s a high-pressure beat in which there’s an expectation you’ll break market-moving news while offering the forward-looking analysis that helps inform decision-makers.
MLex is a real-time newswire and the successful candidate will be expected to turn around urgent copy quickly. It is critical that the successful candidate can successful spot a story that will appeal to MLex’s broad-but-demanding readership. We also publish in-depth reporting and commentary, and the DPS Correspondent will be expected to identify risks posed by legislation ahead of our competitors and use this expertise to write in-depth, big impact investigations and commentary pieces.
The DPS Correspondent will work with our Global Chief Correspondents to lead coverage of data, privacy and security in the UK, while working closely with colleagues in other bureaux and the broader tech regulation team.
The successful candidate must be able to write clearly and concisely in impeccable English. Fluency in any other additional European language would be a distinct advantage.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in our central London office at least two days a week under our post-Covid hybrid working policy; the other three days may be worked from home (accurate as of June 2024, subject to revision).
