Mergers and Acquisitions seeks an associate editor

Jump into reporting on the fast-paced world of dealmaking by joining our staff! You’ll learn the ins and outs of M&A transactions and the people and firms behind them, including private equity firms, investment bankers and other players in high finance.

You’ll start by writing news briefs, profiling key industry players and assisting us in covering the industry. You’ll then graduate to writing feature articles, developing sources for enterprise reporting, and working on in-depth analysis of emerging trends that our sophisticated audience expects from us.

We’ll also train and give you hands-on experience learning critical skills to become a world-class journalist, in areas such as social media, SEO and multimedia.

The position holds 3 main areas of responsibility:

  1. News briefs – find announcements of M&A transactions from press releases, wire services and other sources. Write information-packed, accurate briefs each day, to be posted on our website and in our e-newsletters.
  2. Enterprise reporting – as you develop an understanding of the industry, you’ll write stories on emerging trends, profiles of interesting players in the market, and other news coverage.
  3. Learning track – we expect all of our associate reporters to help us ensure we stay at the cutting edge of digital publishing. You’ll take online classes in areas such as SEO, WordPress production and social media training, and develop your skills critical to growing as a modern-aged journalist.

Additionally you’ll contribute to multi-media projects such as video, podcasts and conferences that we put on throughout the year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have excellent researching and writing skills, and be able to work quickly, accurately and independently. Prior journalism experience is helpful but not required. It is important that the candidate be able to work with other team members and respond enthusiastically to feedback.  This position is a good fit for someone beginning a career in journalism.  The position reports to the Managing Editor and is currently Work from Home.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
