MassLive seeks a biz reporter in Worcester

MassLive, the largest digital news website in Massachusetts according to comScore, seeks a Worcester business reporter with an emphasis on news about the retail and restaurant scene and real estate development.

This beat isn’t about who was appointed CEO or what the latest stock price is. Not only do we want to be the first to let readers know when a business is opening, expanding or closing in and around Worcester, but we also want to dig into the issues local businesses face and how that affects customers.

On the lighter side, you should have your finger on the pulse of what’s trending. What’s the latest thing people are buying or eating? Is everyone talking about a must-eat meal at a local restaurant? Let’s write about it!

We know our readers love talking and reading about food, but they’re also often talking about housing and its many related issues. This reporter will know who all the real estate movers and shakers are, what plans are in the works and how they fit into the region’s overall housing needs.

You should apply if you:

  • Are a high-energy reporter who can work with speed, creativity, accuracy and good judgment.
  • Really want to be first to report something.
  • Engage on social media platforms regularly and follow trends.
  • Are a food and fun junkie with a pulse on the big stories happening at any given time.
  • Have humility, a sense of humor, relentless curiosity and bring passion to your reporting.
  • Have skills in digital storytelling via text, photo and video.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Degree in Journalism or Communications or related field experience with a proven ability in journalism reporting and writing required

  • Proven experience building, maintaining and engaging an active audience
  • Ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
  • Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure
  • Demonstrated capability in capitalizing on high-value topics by engaging audiences in frequency and urgency
