MarketWatch.com seeks a special projects editor

MarketWatch.com is seeking a Reporter/Editor to help manage a newsroom-wide effort that includes special projects, and working alongside journalists and freelancers to conceive and edit in-depth features and investigative stories. You will join our enterprise team and ensure that our coverage is always ambitious, relevant, distinctive, and forward-thinking. In this role, you will spend approximately half of your time reporting and writing enterprise articles, while also working to manage projects and edit content for originality, intellectual rigor and accuracy.

You will:

Enforce high-quality standards and deadlines

Work closely with newsroom staff to create clear, compelling graphics/visuals to pair with our journalism

Be a generous, thoughtful colleague and mentor

You must:

Possess excellent editorial and news judgment and a deep and up-to-date knowledge of investing, personal finance, and financial markets

Edit in-depth stories, and shepherd special projects, which are core to MarketWatch’s mission, to fruition.

Effectively work alongside teams from across the newsroom

Maintain an entrepreneurial outlook and be nimble enough to pivot when needed.

Although previous editing experience is valued, it isn’t a requirement for this role.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
