The ideal candidate should be a deft handler of copy who’s obsessed with accuracy, style and writing that engages a broad spectrum of readers. This editor will be tasked with working with reporters and editors to tease out the key angles and details that matter most to readers, ensuring our copy is free of jargon, PR-speak and purple prose, and that our headlines are sharp, grabby and memorable.
At MarketWatch our mission is to help readers understand what the news of the moment means for their money. Living up to that promise means explaining complex topics in a way that is relatable and useful to a general audience of investors, consumers and humans without ever dumbing things down.
We also strive to be authoritative and fast but also fun.
Requirements:
A minimum of three years’ experience at a consumer-facing publication, first-class writing and editing skills, and fluency in social media. This editor should also possess a working knowledge of business, economics, politics or technology, ideally with some measure of expertise in one or more. The position will ideally be based in New York, but we will consider candidates from elsewhere if you can make a case that your location can be an asset to our coverage.
