MarketWatch.com is seeking a financial writer/columnist who is able to discern the signal from the noise, and weigh in on developments in the market, producing scoops of thought and concept that help our growing audience navigate the pitfalls of investing and trading and guide them toward better-informed decisions.
You will be an experienced journalist or financial analyst, with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, real-time news environment, delivering both quick takes and longer screeds that aim to tell our readers what developments in stocks and bonds (and other assets) mean for their portfolios.
The candidate will be required to write daily columns and has the ability to explain complex topics in a lively conversational manner that engages readers on our site and across other platforms.
Essential job functions:
Write clearly and thoughtfully with just the right amount of sass
Possess the ability to jump on news, spot story angles and trends that keep us ahead of rivals
Work effectively alongside teams from across the newsroom
Boast a track record of producing rigorous, readable prose
Have meticulous fact-checking skills and the highest ethical standards.
Job specifications:
Candidates must have a working understanding of stock and bond markets, as well as currency, commodities and other assets. Must be able to operate in a high-pressure environment and be able to interact with grace with a team of reporters across all of our bureaus.
Other skills: A passion for markets and a deep desire to distill the complexities of finance to everyday folks.
