Las Vegas Review-Journal seeks a real estate reporter

Posted by Chris Roush

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is looking for an experienced business reporter to cover one of the news organization’s biggest beats: housing, real estate and development. This position is responsible for everything from housing trends and property tax policy to billion-dollar resort sales. Perhaps no big city has seen as many boom-and-bust building cycles as Las Vegas over the past three decades, and there is rarely a boring moment on this beat.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer who has covered business news, including real estate or finance. Experience covering publicly traded companies and a familiarity with corporate disclosures to government agencies is a plus.

We are looking for a reporter who is able to develop enterprise stories and collaborate with colleagues. You should have experience building sources, compiling data for graphics/visual presentations, and working on deadline. A competitive drive to get the news first is a must.

The job requires frequent digging through public records, including tracking real estate sales, development plans, building permits, SEC filings and holding companies, to see who is behind a transaction.

Las Vegas is as dynamic a news market as anywhere in the country, and the Review-Journal is the area’s dominant news source. Southern Nevada is home to about 2.3 million people, plus around 200,000 visitors on any given day. It is a diverse metro area with a vibrant downtown and cultural scene, world-class entertainment and sports events, and an international airport with direct flights to just about everywhere. The city is a half-day drive or less to some of the West’s most spectacular outdoor recreation, coastlines and national parks.

Among many honors, the Review-Journal won 2022 National Headliner Awards for Staff Photo Portfolio and for Journalistic Innovation; a 2021 National Headliner Award for Public Service; the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award for Deadline Reporting two of the past five years; and 33 Best of the West awards in the past four years. We’re an innovative, collaborative newsroom that’s been featured twice in the past few years by the American Press Institute/Better News for our efforts to grow our digital audience. And last year we were named one of “10 Publishers That Do It Right” by Editor & Publisher.

The Review-Journal is an equal-opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug screening is mandatory. A reliable vehicle is required.
