In Business Madison is a dynamic and growing digital media organization focused on smart, essential and unexpected business news for Wisconsin’s Capital Region. We publish a monthly print magazine and online coverage at ibmadison.com, in addition to daily newsletters. IB Madison informs and connects the business community through thought-provoking, high-quality journalism and events, and we are looking for a flexible, curious and strong writer to join our team.

We’re seeking a staff journalist to write and produce a refreshed, flagship daily email newsletter — a must-read roundup of business news and insights for professionals in the Madison area. In this position, you’ll play an essential role in shaping our voice, growing our reach and ensuring our work connects with a diverse audience, from first-time entrepreneurs to CEOS to nonprofit executives and local business leaders, among other readers.

In addition, this role will be responsible for filing stories on businesses in our community, from startups to established companies, and the key people who shape the business climate in Wisconsin’s Capital Region.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily newsletter production:

Write, edit and publish a smart, engaging daily email newsletter focused on business news in Madison and Wisconsin’s Capital Region

Curate top local, regional and national business stories

Maintain consistent voice, quality and formatting standards

Monitor performance analytics and optimize accordingly

Beat coverage:

In coordination with the editorial team, take ownership of several business topic areas for regular coverage online and in print

Be flexible with a range of story formats, from breaking news to profiles to in-depth news features

Cover events or news on social media platforms when needed

Qualifications:

3+ years experience in journalism or newsletter publishing

Exceptional writing, editing and content curation skills

Understanding of social media platforms, analytics and trends

Strong sense of voice, brand and storytelling for a professional/business audience

Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Familiarity with Madison or Wisconsin business

Other relevant skills:

Experience with newsletter platforms and BLOX

Background in business journalism or communications

Design or basic photo/video editing skills
