Gizmodo seeks a senior reporter to cover home entertainment

Gizmodo is looking for a Senior Reporter to join our spirited, fast-paced newsroom and write essential reviews and consumer electronics-focused news coverage. This position will focus on home entertainment products, including TVs, soundbars, speakers, and streaming boxes; it may also cover music gear (like stereos, microphones, and amplifiers) and home fitness equipment (like Peloton) in addition to other topics.

A candidate for this position must have experience closely covering the consumer technology market, and writing hands-on reviews of new products. They should be well-sourced in the industry and know the big trends to expect in 2022.

Experience writing both news and product reviews is a must. You must be able to smell hype and BS from a mile away, and expertly parse press releases and PR statements with a critical eye. You must know what makes a great story for Gizmodo, and can write for us with confidence and voice.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • At least 3 years of experience writing consumer technology-focused stories and product reviews at a major print or digital publication
  • Technical knowledge and experience reviewing consumer electronics
  • A thorough understanding of the major companies, issues, and reader-focused concerns across the product category
  • The ability to think quickly, decisively, and creatively in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and reporting practices
  • Scripting or on-camera video experience preferred but not required
  • A good sense of humor and a quick wit are essential
