FT Specialist seeks a reporter to cover health payers

Are the kind of reporter who relishes a challenge? What about tackling the $1.4 trillion system for insuring the health of tens of millions of Americans? Join us, and you’ll plumb the byzantine depths of the U.S. health care insurance industry. We write about some of its biggest companies, such as UnitedHealth, Humana, Cigna and Kaiser. We want to know about their acquisitions, strategies, layoffs … and we want to go deeper, much deeper, than routine news releases.

This job is for a reporter who is eager to cover health insurance. You will cover the health insurance industry and write everything from scoops to analytical trend pieces. You will develop a source list and become a trusted provider of content for our sophisticated readers.

We have a small, collegial, open-minded team, but we are part of a big company that offers plenty of opportunity for career growth and taking on more responsibilities.

Some of your responsibilities:

  • Report and write about four articles per week and create video content based on interviews
  • Show your expertise on the subject matter by writing with clarity, insight and depth
  • Establish and maintain close relationships with insurance executives and their companies
  • Travel to industry events and meet with prospects to stay on top of the latest industry trends

What’s in it for you? Pay & Benefits

Our benefits vary depending on location, but we are committed to providing best-in-class perks across all our offices as well as an inclusive environment to develop your career. Examples of our benefits include generous annual leave allowances, hybrid working arrangements, health coverage (medical, dental and vision insurance), 401(k) and company match, as well as enhanced maternity and paternity packages.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for New York City-based staff in this role is $71,000-$75,000.

This position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.
