We are looking for a scoop-getting business correspondent to join the San Francisco bureau, with a focus of getting to the heart of Silicon Valley’s venture capital industry, the tech start-up scene, specifically emerging fintech and crypto companies.
You’re an energetic reporter who can break into the networks around the world’s leading tech VCs and write original stories about key investment trends in the Valley and tell us about the deals that matter. The ideal reporter will be able to spot when a startup is heading towards a major exit — or about to crash and burn. These are dramatic corporate tales involving colourful characters. We want to tell these stories in vivid detail and for a global business audience.
Day-to-day, you will work closely with an incoming West Coast Financial Editor, and together will be tasked with breaking the stories that matter on the intersection of tech and finance. While these roles are complementary, there will be a particular demand on your beat to also produce deeply-reported corporate tales on fintech, payments and crypto companies based in the Bay Area which have proliferated in recent years.
You will need to be collegiate, sharing tips and supporting the coverage of like-minded reporters in New York, London and beyond. To that end, you will also be an important part of the FT’s Due Diligence team, formed around a global network of corporate finance reporters who regularly contribute towards the daily newsletter.
The demands are high, but the opportunity is massive: reporting on the people and companies that will change global tech and business in the years to come.
