The Financial Times is seeking a reporter to cover Wall Street’s biggest market makers, exchanges and cryptocurrency groups. The trading and crypto correspondent will lead our coverage of one of the most dynamic and quickly growing areas in US finance. The role straddles corporate and markets reporting, so the ideal candidate will be as comfortable wading through balance sheets as unpicking the plumbing underlying the financial system. Source building will be a vital component of this role.
The remit will cover high-speed trading firms including Citadel Securities, Jane Street, and Susquehanna, as well as traditional exchanges operators such as InterContinental Exchange, Nasdaq and CME Group. It will also cover leading crypto trading platforms and government policy in tandem with the FT’s London-based digital markets correspondent.
The reporter will be expected to deliver news and agenda-setting scoops, interviews, as well as longer analytical stories and profiles that will appear across the FT’s suite of publications, including the Big Read and FT Magazine. Writing skills are a crucial part of this job, since the correspondent will need to break down complex industry jargon.
The US trading and crypto correspondent will sit within the New York-based US markets team.
