Fortune seeks an e-commerce editor

Fortune is looking for an editor to help launch our new personal finance e-commerce initiative. This editor must have an extensive knowledge of personal finance, a dedication to creating high quality service journalism, and an understanding of the competitive e-commerce space. They will be responsible for growing a team of writers and freelancers and work cross-functionally across Fortune to achieve the goal of building the new section’s audience and growing its revenue.

The editor will be responsible for the section’s big picture goals, including developing the content, social, and distribution strategies. They also must be willing to jump in and help with day-to-day responsibilities that come with growing a small but nimble team. Finally, we are looking for a team player, as our newsroom thrives on collaboration, experimentation, and telling great stories across platforms.

Job Description

  • Determine the content strategy for Fortune’s first foray into personal finance e-commerce
  • Build and manage a team of freelancers, staff writers, and editors
  • Assign and edit personal finance articles, including explainers and best-of lists to build our SEO-driven articles library
  • Ensure our coverage includes a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices
  • Uphold Fortune’s standards of journalistic rigor, accuracy, and fairness

The right candidate:

  • Has proven management and editing experience in a digital environment
  • Has a robust understanding of the personal finance e-commerce space
  • Has a deep understand of SEO and keyword targeting, and how it can be used to effectively grow audiences
  • Has experience writing and editing personal financial content
  • Brings a strong network of freelance writers
  • Can balance editorial and business needs and has a clear vision on how we can achieve the goals of growing revenue and audience
  • Edits clean, accurate, and insightful copy on deadline
  • Is flexible and adaptable
  • Effectively prioritizes tasks in a fast-paced environment and juggles creative personalities
  • Communicates professionally and effectively in a remote environment
