Fierce Biotech seeks a senior reporter

Fierce Biotech, a division of Questex, is seeking a sharp and eager journalist to join our expanding team.

We are looking for a reporter to deliver daily news and a steady flow of features that put the news in context for our readers. This beat focuses on biotech companies from startups to multibillion-dollar enterprises—the venture capital they raise and IPOs they pull off; the science they advance and the drugs they develop.

The ideal candidate excels not only at building sources and breaking news but also at digging into the why and how behind the daily stories. Our readers are savvy and well-informed, and they look to us for perspectives and insights they cannot get elsewhere.

This person will also have a strong commitment to editorial quality and ethics, a passion for diving deep into the subjects they cover, and the desire to have a little fun with what they do.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write daily news stories and longer-form articles.
  • Develop the beat and cultivate a range of sources at companies, regulatory agencies, industry experts, and analysts.
  • Research government databases, court documents, securities filings, and other public sources for untold stories.
  • Brainstorm and develop engaging features to enhance interaction with Fierce Biotech’s dedicated reader community.
  • Contribute to podcasts and video reporting.
  • Attend key medical meetings and industry conferences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a newsroom, preferably covering biotech; experience in other areas of business reporting is also acceptable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related writing-intensive field.
  • Strong writing skills and proficiency in AP style.
  • Competitive spirit and a drive to scoop the competition.
  • Most importantly, a positive attitude, “Fierce” work ethic, and enthusiasm to be part of a winning team of journalists committed to delivering business news in a fresh, relatable manner.

Come join our talented group of writers and editors who enjoy our work—and working together. We believe we’re fielding the best team we’ve ever had, and we want you to be a part of it.

To apply, please send your resume and up to three published clips to Editor-in-Chief, Ayla Ellison, at aellison@questex.com
