Fast Company is looking for a Staff Writer to join our Technology team. Technology has always been foundational to our journalistic mission; we’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable about the people and companies powering the industry, and who brings both excitement and healthy skepticism to the role.
This writer can be a generalist or someone with subject-specific expertise, whether that’s in Web3, crypto, AI, VR, or another beat. We want someone who is capable of turning out a quick exclusive but also writing nuanced and deeply reported features. Though cadence will vary by week, this writer will be expected to file three stories per week.
We’re a small but a mighty team: This writer will play a huge role in defining the technology section’s voice.
This is a full-time, staff position with competitive pay and benefits, based either in our New York office in Lower Manhattan or remotely. This position is represented by the Fast Company and Inc. union the Writers Guild of America-East.
Salary Minimum: $70,000
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Writing and reporting stories for the Tech vertical, including short posts with quick turnaround and deeply reported in-depth stories
- Advising editors and colleagues of other newsworthy stories; brainstorming and sharing resources with other staff
- Option to represent Fast Company at live events, media appearances, and in podcasts and video
We’re seeking a creative writer and with a genuine fascination for the topics covered in the Tech section—from VR and cryptocurrencies to the latest updates on the people and personalities driving Big Tech. You should have:
- At least three years’ daily reporting experience at an online publication or a newspaper, preferably covering business or tech
- Excellent news judgement
- The ability to quickly identify important stories and succinctly crystalize the main ideas behind them
