Dow Jones Newswires seeks an energy reporter in London

Dow Jones Newswires is looking for a reporter to cover the energy beat for Dow Jones Newswires, with a focus on providing actionable insights for our professional readership. You will be closely aligned with our broader commodities coverage and provide backup.

You will:

  • Closely watch market developments on a real-time basis, exercise exceptional news judgment to send headlines when markets move, provide analysis of what’s moving prices and why with the urgency, accuracy and cadence expected for newswires readers. A key focus will be crude oil benchmarks – Brent and WTI – natural gas and LNG.
  • Build out longer-form, in-depth and thematic analyses, cover regular data releases and forecasts, such as those from Opec and the International Energy Agency, and compile analysts’ forecasts for key benchmarks. Interviews with key decision makers and industry experts should be a regular feature of coverage.
  • Work with colleagues locally and in our regional hubs in the U.S. and Asia, providing scope for cooperation and communication across regions.
  • Attend selective industry conferences and the ability to build a solid contact book are among other requirements of the role.

You have:

  • A minimum of two years’ reporting experience, preferably in a financial or markets-related role.
  • A demonstrated ability to write accurately and quickly in a fast-paced news environment.
  • Proven ability to develop sources across the broad spectrum of coverage to provide insight and analysis for professional customers.
  • A well-honed sense of urgency along with a capacity to remain calm under pressure.
  • An ability to prioritize tasks and time while handling multiple responsibilities.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn.

The position will be based in London or Barcelona and will report to the Chief Editor, for Dow Jones Newswires, EMEA.
