The Dallas Morning News is seeking an enterprising and highly motivated reporter to help us drive coverage in one of America’s most vibrant business markets.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional reporting and writing skills, an insatiable curiosity about everything business, a thirst for tracking down the story behind the story, and an ability to identify and report on consumer trends in a fast-paced newsroom.

You’ll know this is the beat for you if:

  • You relish breaking news in a competitive market that’s actively covered by national and local media.

  • You possess a digital urgency with a keen eye for spotting a viral story before it happens and an eagerness to experiment with ways to build and grow your digital audience. You’re also a student of digital metrics who uses data to improve your mastery of SEO and social optimization of your stories.

  • You’re adept at going a mile-wide and a mile-deep on accountability and watchdog stories. You’re an expert at sifting through and synthesizing regulatory filings and public records to develop exclusive stories that drive digital subscriptions.

  • You place a premium on connect-the-dots journalism that makes our work indispensable to our readers.

There will be a handful of important locally-based companies anchoring this beat, such as AT&T, Toyota North America and Texas Instruments — all important players in their industries.

Dallas-Fort Worth’s economy is incredibly diverse so we write about the gamut of business topics — from IPOs and buyouts to white-collar crime, from company relocations and labor trends to how government actions impact business, from profiles of emerging business leaders to local business celebrities with global appeal. Throw in a dose of following the money trail from venture capitalists and private equity investors to D-FW companies, particularly our burgeoning biotech sector.

D-FW is the headquarters for an estimated 10,000 companies representing the entire spectrum of the business universe. So you’ll never be at a loss for stories to pursue.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as opportunities for growth and advancement in a collaborative newsroom.
