Colorado Springs Biz Journal seeks a reporter

The Colorado Springs Business Journal is looking for an enterprising and nimble reporter to cover business, real estate, technology, the defense industry and the economy in a city that is perennially named one of the best places to live. This position requires a driven personality who can generate insightful reporting for a sophisticated and engaged audience of entrepreneurs.

Additional skills include:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey stories clearly and accurately to their audience.
  • Research skills to dig into details, verify facts, and uncover new information that contributes to the depth and accuracy of stories.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with sources and contacts, and to conduct interviews professionally and empathetically.
  • Time management skills to handle multiple stories, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to breaking news situations.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret information, discern fact from opinion, and present complex issues in an understandable way.
  • Awareness of ethical journalism standards and legal boundaries, ensuring all content is fair, accurate and legal.
  • Knowledge of various recording and editing software platforms for news gathering and content production
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a newsroom or reporting environment.
  • The ability to find unique angles on trending stories

The print edition of CSBJ publishes monthly, but you will ensure our readers regularly receive breaking news and business intelligence through our daily newsletter and website. Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
