CNBC International seeks a VP/Executive editor for digital

The VP, Executive Editor, Digital is responsible for the editorial direction of digital content for CNBC International (EMEA & APAC regions). This includes defining and setting the content strategy for digital, overseeing the reporting and editing of text, video, and graphics on CNBC.com, and serving as a custodian of the CNBC brand. This role leads the International Digital teams based across Singapore, London, China, and the UAE.

Reporting to the President, this position partners closely with editorial leaders across the business, including the VP, TV and Events, and the Heads of TV News, APAC & EMEA, to drive cross-platform, cross-region collaboration between the Digital and TV teams. The VP, Executive Editor, Digital will oversee editorial coordination for the Digital team with Marketing, Ad Sales, Business Development, Corporate Strategy and Product Development teams in the US and support the President and MD to build, develop and execute upon digital product and editorial strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and implement an editorial strategy for CNBC International Digital (CNBC.com, direct-to-consumer teams, and newsletters) that grows & engages our digital audience across free and paid products, and is consistent with CNBC’s broader strategic objectives
  • Structure the digital editorial team based on best-in-class newsrooms around section editors, beats and hire and develop the right talent
  • Oversee daily digital editorial operations, including managing a team of editors and reporters, providing a clear vision to the team, coordinating with counterparts in other editorial departments, and driving the daily editorial agenda
  • Effectively use analytics and clearly communicate metrics to improve and strengthen CNBC.com’s reach
  • Foster a high-performing, audience-focused culture based on collaboration and treating colleagues with respect
  • Create a new operating structure for the dotcom team with an emphasis on building a cohort of dedicated beat reporters that produce best-in-class original journalism
  • Train and mentor the CNBC International Digital team on developing subject matter expertise, story selection, and delivering differentiated journalism
  • Drive the expansion of CNBC’s direct-to-consumer digital products, by delivering compelling content to engage and inform existing subscribers and attract new subscribers
  • Build a portfolio of newsletters with an engaged audience by closely working with newsroom leaders to identify editorially relevant themes
  • Spearhead the development of new user-centric editorial products and collaborate across departments to foster wider adoption
  • Coordinate with CNBC.com teams and digital development teams based in the US to ensure our website and apps serve users’ needs and identify areas of improvement
  • Partner with the International Commercial teams and Global Ad Sales to help monetize our digital assets across CNBC International by conceiving and delivering sponsorable digital reports

Qualifications

  • Experience of leading large editorial teams and overseeing all aspects of business news: editorial planning, writing, editing and production
  • Deep understanding of strategic shifts in the news industry and demonstrable ability of driving change in complex organizations
  • Outstanding editorial judgment, including exceptional understanding and knowledge of business and finance (across the world with specific expertise in Asian and European markets) and demonstrable experience of producing insightful and innovative business news content
  • Accomplished leader who has a proven ability to motivate, engage and develop multi-cultural teams internationally.
  • Experience of operating within a senior leadership team, seasoned contributor to cross functional teams within a complex, matrix organisation.
  • Excellent communicator
  • Creative thinker; able to generate new ideas/concepts and execute them
  • Knowledge of digital media technology and businesses
  • Previous experience in leading a newsroom to build subscription products
