Posted by Chris Roush

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an energetic and ambitious editor to lead our corporate finance team.

You will lead CFO Journal, a part of WSJ Professional Products. As bureau chief, you will write and commission smart analysis that will focus the coverage beyond the news, explaining and exploring nuances that will inform and engage executives and decision-makers.

Finance chiefs are leading the charge on how companies respond to the multiple pressures of rising interest rates and inflation without losing too much steam on growth.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced editor and writer who isn’t afraid to wade deep into balance sheets or stories while also guiding a team of talented reporters.

You will:

  • Dig into how companies manage their financial strategies, from hiring decisions to tough choices about how to balance financial and non-financial objectives
  • Be brimming with ideas about what stories need to be told and how best to tell them
  • Lead a team of three reporters
  • Edit and write stories

You have:

  • Experience writing and reporting about companies and finance
  • An ability to connect the dots and produce in-depth stories and analysis
  • Sound news judgment and an ability to maintain high news metabolism
  • Skills in creating compelling digital-only content – including newsletters – that attracts and engages audiences
  • Superb organizational skills and ability to meet regular deadlines

The position will be based in New York and will report to the Professional Products Editor. To apply, please submit a resume, five clips and a cover letter explaining how you would approach the role.

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
