The Capitol Forum is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Deputy Managing Editor to support the editorial team. In this role, you will liaise between the Executive and Senior Editors and journalists to facilitate a smooth editorial workflow. You will take on basic editing responsibilities, ensure adherence to our editorial standards, and help maintain the quality and timeliness of our content.
While we have a preference for an individual based in Washington, D.C, we will consider remote candidates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Editing and Quality Control:
- Perform edits on articles, reports, and other content for clarity, grammar, and adherence to TCF style.
- Fact-check content for accuracy and ensure proper sourcing and attribution.
- Provide feedback to writers to improve their content and refine their voice.
Workflow Coordination:
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Executive and Senior Editors and journalists to manage the assignment and progress of stories.
- Monitor editorial schedules and deadlines, ensuring timely submissions and publication.
- Assist in prioritizing stories based on newsworthiness and relevance to our audience.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Executive and Senior Editors to implement editorial strategies and initiatives.
- Support journalists by offering guidance, resources, and feedback during the content creation process.
- Ensure smooth communication across the editorial team to foster collaboration and resolve any workflow issues.
Content and Organizational Development:
- Help identify and develop story ideas, ensuring they align with TCF’s mission and audience interests.
- Contribute to brainstorming sessions for special projects or investigative pieces.
- Support the editorial team with additional responsibilities, including participating in hiring, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the overall improvement of editorial processes.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in journalism or editorial roles, with at least 5 years in a newsroom or similar environment.
- Strong editing and writing skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools and platforms is a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in investigative journalism or policy or beat reporting.
- Prior management or team leadership experience.
- Knowledge of The Capitol Forum’s coverage areas, such as regulatory, legislative, or antitrust matters.
