Bloomberg seeks an energy and commodities editor in Tokyo

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It’s what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time. We are looking for an experienced editor to join our Energy and Commodities team. The coverage ranges from agriculture and metal markets to trade wars, M&A and climate policy. We’re looking for a writer and editor who is equally comfortable in financial markets, geopolitical battles and the corporate world.

You are a team player who can react quickly to a sudden move in oil prices and then pivot to China’s nuclear policy or India’s energy transition. You’ll have solid news judgement, and the ability to help reporters quickly join the dots.

You’ll be working with a large and varied group from across Asia’s oil, energy, metals & mining and agriculture teams. You have a proven ability to coach young talent and a proactive approach to challenging stories. Impeccable writing is a must.

We’ll trust you to:
Produce crisp and concise edits that resonate with a wide audience — from our most sophisticated terminal users to our more casual online readers
Innovate with story formats while promoting diversity of thought and representation throughout our coverage from the day-to-day coverage to features and enterprise, with opportunities to work on longer-term projects
Make fast and critical judgement calls to identify the most important stories as well as gaps in coverage
Collaborate with colleagues across teams, bureaus and continents to break news and give a global perspective to our audience

You’ll need to have:
At least 5 recent years of experience in business journalism as a reporter or editor
Experience working in a real-time news environment
Experience collaborating and working with others to accomplish goals
Outstanding writing skills and the ability to craft concise, clean prose under deadline
Interest in energy, commodities and climate coverage
Proficiency in both spoken and written English
Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization

We’d love to see:
Business Level of Japanese a plus
