Bloomberg seeks an ag reporter in Sydney

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from intraday coverage through in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It’s what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time

We are seeking a reporter to help drive our coverage of agriculture across Asia. You will be part of a team covering some of the most exciting producing and consuming nations in the world. While you will be responsible for reporting on Australia’s agriculture industry, you will also be covering grain and crop trading across the wider region, and bringing many more stories to life.

This is a colorful beat with opportunities for both market-moving scoops and big, impactful features as the world market grapples with trade disruptions and the fallout from increasingly extreme weather. You will be expected to range between breaking news on trade flows to enterprise stories on food security or our changing diets. You will also be involved in our daily grain market coverage.

We’re looking for a reporter with proven news judgment, a track record of breaking news and strong writing skills. An eagerness to embrace the global nature of the beat and a willingness to work with colleagues across bureaus are vital.

We’ll trust you to:
  • Build a network of sources along the supply chain and the futures’ market, with an emphasis on the traders that keep crops flowing
  • Break news on the Australia and Asia agriculture markets that keeps on top of what’s next for supply and demand
  • Connect the dots to pitch ambitious enterprise that spans Bloomberg’s platforms and makes our content accessible to a diverse and business-savvy audience
  • Collaborate with colleagues across teams, bureaus and continents to deliver a global perspective to our readers
You’ll need to have:
  • At least 5 years of experience in business journalism
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment
  • Experience covering commodities, particularly agriculture, is preferred
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English
