Bloomberg seeks a Toronto bureau chief

Toronto is the heartbeat of Canada’s business and financial scene, a dynamic city where the most critical economic decisions are made. We’re seeking a bureau chief who can work with our journalists to break exclusive news, produce timely analysis and write insightful feature stories, growing Bloomberg’s brand and enhancing our value to clients.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of financial markets, company news, the importance of Canada’s financial sector and current economic trends. She or he will be adept at working in a fast-paced environment, including editing stories for clarity and accuracy under time pressure. The focus will be some of the topics that matter most to Bloomberg readers, including finance, real estate, wealth and markets. The Toronto bureau chief will also collaborate across teams and departments, leveraging Bloomberg’s global reach.

  •   Demonstrate excellent news judgment and deliver stories on tight deadlines
  •   Work with others in the bureau and across the newsroom to break news and produce high-quality enterprise stories
  •   Elevate the work of the Toronto team while working effectively with editors across the Bloomberg newsroom, including those in New York, London, and other financial centers
  •   Attract top industry leaders to speak with us to build the visibility of our coverage

YOU WILL NEED:

  •   At least five years of experience working in daily news journalism with a focus on business, finance or economics
  •   An ability to understand and synthesize developments in Canadian business as part of a global picture
  •   A collaborative spirit and an ability to manage real-time feedback
  •   A high energy level and the capacity to move easily across different subjects
  •   Experience working as part of a broader newsroom and an all-hands-on-deck spirit
