Bloomberg seeks a shale oil reporter in Houston

Bloomberg News is looking for an experienced reporter to write about the U.S. shale oil industry. We’re seeking someone who is already well-sourced and understands the transformational role played by this sector in energy markets and the wider economy in recent years. The successful candidate will be able to combine that knowledge with an insatiable curiosity and a go-getting approach to breaking news, and explain the most important developments in shale to Bloomberg’s global audience, not just on the terminal but on our website and other platforms as well.

We’re looking for someone who will be capable of switching gears in a fast-paced and hard-working environment, who is comfortable with moving between spot news stories, interviewing CEOs and long-term enterprise reporting projects. The right candidate will be at home in a bustling newsroom, someone who can work enthusiastically as part of a team, and who is a natural when it comes to spontaneous and intense collaboration with colleagues across other teams and around the world.

Requirements also include being a self-starter who can build contacts and relationships with companies and organizations at all levels, and a solid understanding of the impact of climate change on the energy industry and markets.
Location for this role can be Houston or Denver.

We’ll trust you to:

  •   Write accurately and quickly under tight deadlines
  •   Break news on company strategies, projects, M&A
  •   Explore evolving industry trends
  •   Be able to shift between writing for expert Bloomberg clients on the terminal and a wider audience across our other platforms
  •   Collaborate closely with colleagues in the U.S. and across the world
