Bloomberg seeks a senior features writer in Tokyo

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It’s what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.

Bloomberg LP has built a significant media business spanning television, digital, magazine, radio and live event platforms across the globe. In the midst of a historic time in the media industry, Bloomberg Media is growing its global footprint and reach through new innovations from Bloomberg Originals to New Economy Forum.

We’re looking for an insightful, experienced and versatile writer to help us expand Bloomberg’s culture and lifestyle coverage in APAC. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional journalist, with fluency and interest in a wide range of cultural, social and political topics, as well as deep knowledge of business and finance. This role reports to the managing editor of Pursuits.

We’ll trust you to:
Report and write original, colorful features, profiles, essays, and other pieces for Pursuits, and occasionally for Bloomberg Weekend and CityLab
Manage multiple assignments at once in order to contribute to daily, weekly and monthly online and print publication schedules
Spot opportunities for great stories and ideas at the intersections of culture, society, business and politics
Collaborate with beat reporters and editors across our APAC newsrooms to identify new contributors, ideas, sources and profile subjects
Edit other writers’ work as needed
Integrate your work across Bloomberg media platforms, including video, audio, newsletters, TV and events

You’ll need to have:
At least 10 years of experience in journalism and a proven track record of insightful, compelling and well-written work, including deeply reported magazine-style features
An extensive network of sources across the region, and experience both securing and executing high-profile interviews
Interest in and understanding of financial markets and how they interact with everything else, but especially culture and society
Boundless curiosity and ideas, and a keen eye for emerging consumer and lifestyle trends across Asia
Proficiency in both spoken and written English
Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization

We’d love to see:
Experience commissioning and editing, as well as writing
