Bloomberg News seeks a collaborative and scoop-hungry reporter to cover the dynamic world of initial public offerings (IPO) in equity capital markets (ECM), including spinoffs, direct listings, capital increases and deals involving special-purpose acquisition companies.
Candidates should have a proven ability to develop sourcing and break news. We’re looking for someone who is calm under pressure in an exciting and competitive beat. The reporter will oversee our breaking news coverage on IPOs and the impact they have on companies and the board room. They will also be expected to generate enterprise stories on Wall Street and the deals community.
IPOs are an evolving beat that can touch on companies in every sector and the reporter should be able to work seamlessly with other teams in the newsroom, whether in markets, investing, global business, finance or legal industries.
WE’LL EXPECT YOU TO:
- Break news on companies looking to go public: considering IPOs to hiring banks or getting scoops on where deals are priced and exclusives on talks with blank-check firms called SPACs
- Be on top of ECM trends while tracking potential go-public candidates
- Develop your sourcing among investment bankers, lawyers, public relations professionals, investors and others in the ECM ecosphere.
- Break news on capital increases, including share sales to fund M&A, and block sales
- Boost your profile on the beat with projects such as our daily Deals Newsletter, events as well as expand our cross-platform contributions to TV, radio, podcasts, magazines, the website and social media.
- Innovate and think creatively about ways to make our content accessible to a broader audience of business-savvy readers.
YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:
- Minimum of four years experience in business journalism
- Experience working in a real-time news environment
- Knowledge of the economy, financial markets, and Wall Street is essential
- Strong writing skills, with a specific focus on accuracy, precision and speed for sensitive, anonymously sourced stories
- A track record in breaking news and developing sourcing
