Bloomberg seeks a Canada economic data editor

Bloomberg News is looking for an editor to join the Americas economic data news team in Ottawa. This person would be responsible for coverage of Canadian economic indicators, including writing and editing news across several formats such as breaking news headlines, short bullet-point stories and data tables. The right candidate will have a desire to innovate, a passion for fast news coverage and rock-solid reliability.

We’ll trust you to:

  • >Leverage new and existing technology to provide fast, accurate coverage of economic indicators that Bloomberg Terminal clients rely on
  • Edit economic news for accuracy, clarity and style
  • Pitch in on coverage of indicators in other economies across the Americas as needed
  • Develop solutions to improve the existing workflow for processing and editing data-focused stories
  • Contribute to generating story ideas within the Ottawa bureau and the broader team
  • Research and implement different ways of generating insights and visual assets from publicly available reports and Bloomberg internal data to supply the newsroom with smarter, faster, and more accurate material for reporting
  • Rely on the expertise of fellow reporters, data editors and economists to identify gaps in coverage and to help shape ongoing efforts in the region

You’ll need to have:

  • Background in Economics, Journalism, Finance or another related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • A desire to learn and to constructively question the status quo
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced news environment
  • >Working knowledge of Excel VBA and/or Python for web scraping and data science
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg Terminal preferable
