Bloomberg News, one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world, is looking for a Budapest bureau chief to lead our coverage of Hungary.
Your job will be to chronicle the country at a critical juncture, closely covering the upcoming election and examining whether Viktor Orban will hold onto power as his rule is seriously challenged for the first time in 15 years.
You’ll follow every twist and turn of Orban’s often tense relations with others in the European Union, and be out front on his dealings with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. We also want you to dig into the business interests of Orban’s inner circle and examine the government’s efforts to attract Chinese investment to the country.
You’ll be as comfortable in a real-time news environment as thinking about broader geo-economic angles at a time when the region is undergoing a transformational shift in funding and spending requirements in response to the current US administration. In addition, your ambassadorial and strong presentation skills will be in high demand as you coordinate with teams and platforms across the newsroom.
If this sounds like you, apply!
We’ll trust you to:
- Demonstrate exceptional news judgement
- Write and edit clear and comprehensive stories
- Regularly break news and produce high-quality enterprise pieces
- Work effectively across multiple teams, platforms and stakeholders
- Manage the internal personnel needs of the bureau
- Attract top newsmakers and build the reputation of the bureau both externally and internally
You will need to have:
- Fluent Hungarian and English skills
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Experience working in business journalism and in a real-time news environment
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to direct coverage
- An ability to maintain and develop top-level sources
