Bloomberg Opinion seeks an industrial and transportation columnist

Bloomberg Opinion is looking for a dedicated writer to cover the industrial and transportation industries with insight, flair and authority. We are seeking an independent and quick-thinking columnist who will play a leading role shaping our global audience’s understanding of the biggest trends, most important companies and most influential leaders in these parts of the American economy.

Coverage would include corporate strategy and performance, innovation, policy battles, supply-chain issues, and workplace equity and diversity. You would be deeply interested in the culture, creativity, challenges and finances of manufacturing and transportation.

WE’LL TRUST YOU TO:

  •   Write insightful, unique opinion columns with an authoritative and engaging voice tied to breaking news as well as deeper dives into specific issues
  •   Relish the opportunity to lead the most important debates of the day in your area of coverage in a fast-paced environment.
  •   Use visual data to illustrate important trends
  •   Produce at least two columns a week
  •   Work with Bloomberg Opinion’s social media editors to produce videos around columns

YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:

  •   At least 7 recent years of experience in financial journalism
  •   At least 5 years of experience covering technology as a reporter
  •   Experience covering the industrial and transportation industries as a reporter
  •   A proven track record of unique insights
  •   Abundant opinions grounded in fact
  •   Ability to write with a point of view
  •   Ability to collaborate and work in a team atmosphere
  •   Attention to detail

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
