Bloomberg Opinion seeks a retail columnist

Bloomberg Opinion is looking for a seasoned journalist with a wide understanding of the consumer world and retail business.

We want a columnist to cover the fast-changing consumer economy and shifting consumer experience, as well as the retail business world, primarily in the US. An ideal candidate will be familiar with American retail businesses, large and small; with consumer trends, and with the history and economic conditions at play in consumer news.

Candidates should be as interested in divining the meaning of balance sheets as they are in spotting shifts in the marketplace.

We will trust you to:

  • Be a strong reporter and talented, practiced writer.
  • Compose authoritative and well-reported columns on retail business and consumer matters.
  • Keep abreast of trends and news in these sectors to be prepared to write some columns quickly when news is breaking, and others that explain, put in context and comment on larger trends.
  • Collaborate with Bloomberg Opinion colleagues worldwide on ideas and columns.
