Bloomberg News seeks a breaking news editor in Brussels

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It’s what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.
We are looking for a Breaking News Editor in Brussels. Our Breaking News team is fast and innovative, and our mission is to deliver news to readers as quickly as possible, enabling our audience to stay ahead.
You’ll be part of a team of editors in Western and Southern Europe, with a specific mandate to cover the European Union and the Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg (BeNeLux) markets.
As a Breaking News editor you will watch the constant flow of information from sources including social media and company filings, use strong news judgement to independently decide what actually has potential to make an impact, and relay that information in headlines and dispatches as quickly as possible, as clearly as possible. You’ll be keeping an eye on some of the largest companies in the region, and you’ll be at the center of Europe’s response to political developments overseas.
The successful candidate will embody the all-hands-on-deck approach, helping out with the coverage of market-moving news, be it company earnings or global themes such as geo-political conflicts and tariffs. Based in our Brussels bureau, you’ll be working closely with experienced reporters and editors steeped in the affairs of the EU capital, but the role will also offer you a chance to partner with teams across the whole region.
Breaking News editors thrive in a high-pressure environment, aren’t afraid to make split-second decisions, and love surprises. We work well with both people and technology. We understand what serious market participants are looking for amid the daily deluge of information and we’re adept at separating the wheat from the chaff on social media. If this sounds like you, we want you to join our Breaking News team.
We’ll trust you to:
  • Make fast and independent judgement calls on breaking EU news
  • Closely track corporate news in the BeNeLux markets
  • Send accurate, clear flash headlines that move markets
  • Write concise yet complete stories in various formats
  • Unearth news from all available sources, ranging from statements and press conferences to social media
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors in other teams and locations around Europe
You’ll need to have:
  • Experience covering politics, financial and business news
  • The ability to make quick decisions and write short stories under pressure
  • An eye for details, facts and numbers
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English
  • Fluency in French is preferred, knowledge of Dutch and other languages would be a plus
We’d love to see:
  • Proficiency at collaborating and working across teams to accomplish goals
  • Flexibility with hours and assignments. News is unexpected.
  • A strong ability to adapt and learn new technology
