Bismarck Tribune seeks an energy reporter

The Bismarck Tribune, the newspaper in the capital city of North Dakota, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover energy and the environment.

The successful candidate will cover developments in the Bakken oil fields, which make North Dakota one of the nation’s top oil-producing states. The beat also includes coverage of coal, with North Dakota home to the single-largest deposit of lignite in the world. North Dakota also is a leading state for wind energy development. State leaders have embraced carbon capture and sequestration technology, with numerous projects in the works to capture emissions from industrial facilities and bury them in rocks deep underground.

We’re looking for an experienced reporter to cover the energy industry, as well as environmental impacts of development. Bismarck is the center of energy regulation and centrally located to coal country and the Bakken oil patch.

North Dakota has been at the center of many national energy stories, including the Dakota Access protests, an oil refinery planned near Theodore Roosevelt National Park and record volumes of natural gas flaring.

We prefer at least five years of reporting experience, with multimedia skills a plus. The newsroom emphasizes professional development opportunities to help reporters grow.

The Tribune is a member of Lee Enterprises and offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, a generous paid time off program and a 401k plan.
