FT seeks executive audio producer in New York

The Financial Times is looking for an executive producer to join our growing audio team spanning New York and London. In this role you will work closely with producers on our flagship US based shows like Behind the Money and FT News Briefing, and in collaboration with your EP counterpart in London to provide editorial direction across our evolving podcast portfolio.

You have an enthusiasm for and demonstrable experience in narrative podcasting. You are skillful at communicating your unique and creative approach to programme-making. And importantly, you have a portfolio full of ear-catching audio stories which you have produced or have overseen. You are collaborative and have experience working within an expanding team with flexible needs.

You have a deep understanding of the US market and successful podcast formats. You have a passion for current affairs, business news and a deep familiarity with the FT’s unique brand of globally-focused journalism.

This role reports to the Global Head of Audio, and podcasts at the FT sit within the digital editorial development team, where audio plays an important role in helping us reach more broadly and engage more deeply with new and existing audiences.

Our ideal candidate: 

  • Has a deep understanding of the craft of narrative audio storytelling

  • Can communicate complex ideas with clarity

  • Has a strong news instinct

  • Is a creative and adept audio editor

  • Is an experienced and effective scriptwriter

  • Is able to work collaboratively across a newsroom

  • Has an instinct for how great print journalism should be told through audio

  • Familiarity and experience working on a US-marketed podcast

  • Is organised and can prioritise under deadline

  • Has experience developing host talent

Key responsibilities: 

  • Oversee output, provide feedback, sign-off on edits and web copy on US based shows

  • Contribute to new show development and storyboarding with the audio team, FT journalists and/or production partners

  • Provide regular feedback to presenters and producers

  • Work closely with the sound engineer to refine edits and to build a signature sound for the FT

  • Help manage audience growth strategies for our audio content, including promotion strategies for existing shows and new show launches

  • Ensure content produced with external partners coheres with the FT’s journalism and audio style

  • Produce and edit shows when required

  • Keep across industry trends and the evolving audio landscape, communicating insights with the audio team

  • Coordinate with in-house lawyer on fair dealing, copyright and libel risks

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working as a producer

  • Highly-skilled in editing on DAWs, mainly Pro-Tools

  • Experience working in an audio team within a print newsroom is a plus
