We’re looking for a correspondent who has a proven track record covering corporate reporting and business stories and who understands what makes the FT a distinctive and definitive voice in global journalism, including through our expanding sports business coverage.
We’re looking for an established scoop-getter, who will have a particular focus covering European football, while also covering a number of other prominent global sports.
Producing regular and original news, principally into the Companies desk, is a must, as is the ability to write about the big and colorful personalities involved in the industry. But the ideal candidate will have the ability to think broadly, contributing to all sections of the FT, such as Big Read and FT Weekend. This also means covering major sporting events, such as the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 and the next summer Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
The Sports Editor will take the reins of Scoreboard, the FT’s “mini-brand” and franchise focused on the business of sport. This involves editing a weekly newsletter and writing it alongside the FT’s current sports business reporters and the team behind the Due Diligence newsletter who co-founded Scoreboard.
The Sports Editor is also responsible for expanding on Scoreboard’s existing initiatives, which currently includes a video series and a burgeoning program of live events. They will become the new face of the annual FT Business of Football Summit, which has established itself as a landmark event in the football industry calendar.
