FT seeks a crypto correspondent in London

The Financial Times is looking for a digital assets correspondent to cover crypto and related areas, as we deepen our coverage of this fast-growing industry. We are seeking an ambitious and experienced journalist with strong scoop-getting chops for this senior reporting role.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the companies and people driving the $2tn crypto market. The digital assets correspondent will be expected to pitch original and impactful stories and interviews aimed at a general business readership.

The journalist will cover a wide patch that includes topics like regulation, market structure, corporate finances and the intersection of traditional and digital asset markets. Collaboration with other relevant correspondents – in regulation and finance in the UK and around the world – will be key.

A significant portion of the role will involve shining a light on what is happening behind the scenes in the digital asset industry – delving into what exactly companies and influential individuals are doing. That means developing a rich contact book of sources and delivering stories that transcend the misinformation and hyperbole that often surround the topic.

Based in London or the US, the role will report to the Markets desk. However, the correspondent will be expected to contribute to coverage across editorial teams and geographies, bolstering the FT’s already strong coverage of the digital asset sector.

Your Skills

  • Ability to separate signal from noise in an industry where the news flows quickly

  • Exemplary writer who can develop longer-term reporting while also writing quick dispatches when news breaks

  • A journalist who is filled with enthusiasm and ideas; along with a proven track record of turning those plans into impactful stories

  • Instinct for developing scoops through interviews, data and public sources

  • Curiosity on how the crypto market is set up and a keenness for unpicking the sometimes complicated structures behind it

  • A team player who is eager to collaborate with reporters and editors across the publication
