Are you a freelance reporter in the Portland metro who’d like to write for Street Roots? I’m looking to add to our stable of recurring freelancers. Also should note student journalists are welcome to reach out. Student journalism is real journalism.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Street Roots is a nonprofit organization in Portland, Oregon, that publishes a weekly social justice newspaper sold by people experiencing homelessness and poverty to earn an income. Its weekly newspaper is filled with local journalism focused on social and environmental justice issues. Its content includes a mix of in-depth reporting by professional journalists, along with op-eds from community members and social justice oriented organizations.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

Write a short introduction about yourself
Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  • $300+ per article
