Fortune seeks a reporter in New York

Do you breathlessly await the latest inflation numbers? Are you wondering how the lithium shortage will play out over the next 10 years? Do you find yourself trying to explain how we might be in a recession, even with incredibly low unemployment?

Then you should consider applying to Fortune to write about the day’s biggest business and economic news from its U.S. bureau in New York City.

The reporter in this position will file breaking news, as well as news analysis and enterprise articles. They should be comfortable juggling a mixture of stories, working on tight deadlines, and pursuing original reporting.

We are looking for a self-motivated reporter who is passionate about bringing business, econ, and tech journalism to a wider audience. Someone who can pitch a great story, report it out, and collaborate to execute great coverage and must-reads.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing operation publishing news in front of the paywall.

Reporters should have:

  • At least 2 years of previous newsroom experience
  • A digital-first mindset and voracious reading habits
  • Interest in tech, finance, markets, internet culture and economics, and the desire to dig deeper into a beat
  • The ability to concisely connect the dots between data and real-world events
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively as part of a tight-knit, fast-paced team
  • An interest in covering the biggest stories of the day
  • A nose for identifying overlooked stories, or unusual and unexpected developments
  • A devotion to detail and accuracy, and the ability to turn around copy quickly
  • Experience using reader data to inform and inspire story choices
  • Experience using Datawrapper is a bonus

Fortune’s U.S. bureau is based in New York City, currently with the option to work on a remote/hybrid arrangement.
